Ozone

Ozone has an incredible variety of therapeutic benefits, including stimulation of tissue regeneration. Other benefits include its ability to kill viruses, bacteria, fungi, and help support the immune system. A major part of its clinical utility comes from the fact that it increase blood oxygen levels. This has profund benefits in supporting energy, decreasing stress on the lungs, and even cardiovascular system. It also stimulates strong antioxidant activity in the body. This gives the therapy its high potential for reducing cellular damage from injury or aging.

There are multiple ways to deliver ozone as a therapy. The video here discusses its use as a treatment for musculoskeletal disorders which is typically done using joint injection theapy. This involves injecting the gas directly into the affected joint space. This procedure can be done with or without first injecting a numbing agent into the joint. When injecting joints, the aim is for a localized therapeutic benefit for that joint. For other disorders, like infections or issues with the immune system, it is more beneficial to have the therapy delivered systemically. There are several options for systemic treatment including intravenous, intramuscular, vaginal, or rectal. Intravenous therapy involves first drawing blood from the patient, mixing that with ozone gas and then infusing the blood back into the patient. Intravenous allows for high doses of treatment. Intramuscular injections involve injecting the gas into the muscle where it is then taken up by the blood. This is beneficial when smaller doses of ozone are all that is needed. Vaginal and rectal insufflations are a third way to apply systemic ozone at moderate levels.

So what does this mean in terms of treatment? Oxygen supports health at a very foundational level, so it is no suprise that ozone can be used to treat a multitude of health disorders. Autoimmune diesease, chronic fatigue, infection, musculoskeletal pain and inflammation, and cancer are among some of the most common conditions addressed by ozone therapy. Dr. Brownstein advocates for ozone and describes all its clinical benefits in his book, Ozone: The Miracle Therapy.
